Yoga Therapy

What is Yoga Therapy?
Although yoga as a practice can be therapeutic there are significant differences between a yoga class and a yoga therapy session.

Yoga Therapy combines the worlds of yoga and yogic philosophy with neuroscience and psychology. It translates neuroscientific evidence into practice, whilst offering the support of psychotherapeutic holding empowering individuals to progress towards improved health and wellbeing through the application, teachings and practices of yoga.

Yoga therapy is a process between therapist and client promoting awareness and curiosity of sensations in the body. A Yoga Therapy session is client-centred allowing you to safely explore your individual needs. This may include integration of tools such as movement, mindfulness, breathwork and sound.

"Yoga therapy is the professional application of the principles and practices of yoga to promote health and well-being within a therapeutic relationship that includes personalized assessment, goal setting, lifestyle management and yoga practices for individuals or small groups."- Updated definition of Yoga Therapy by The International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) Feb 2020

Yoga recognises the essential relationships between all aspects of life and the bi-directional influences of the universal and personal, nature and nuture, the tangible and the subtle. Yoga therapy weaves together the rich resources of philosophy and practice as they have historically been applied in the context of a teacher-student relationship where the needs of the student are paramount.

YOGA THERAPY IN PRACTICE:
Grace provides personalised yoga therapy that reflects her scope of practice as a long term dance educator, holistic bodywork practitioner and yoga therapist. In keeping with her training and experience, Grace assists clients to explore awareness of their mind-body connection, expanding movement vocabulary in a supportive non-judgemental space.

Grace views yoga therapy as a method for fostering development and healing that nurtures, reveals, and integrates the whole self. Practice elements include breath centered asana, pranayama, relaxation, and meditation tailored to the needs, conditions, interests, and priorities of the person on the day.

Sessions begin with a centering practice and check-in. Practices guided in session and given as home practice will be chosen based on priorities identified in the session.

GETTING STARTED:
Grace will send a brief Health Information form to be completed and returned by email attachment at least 24 hours prior to the first session.

The first session will be 90 minutes in order to discuss information provided in the Health form, and to gather additional information about how you stand, move, and breathe. A short initial practice will be developed and taught in the session. The practice will be scribed so you can use it to practice at home.

FOLLOW UP SESSIONS:
Follow up sessions are usually 60 minutes, but 90 minutes is available upon request. The frequency of sessions is determined by mutual agreement based on client preference. The content of sessions also varies according to needs identified on the day.

Initial consultation 90 minutes – £85 / €90 / $105
Subsequent session prices 60 minutes – £70 / €75 / $90
Payment is due the day of sessions either through bank transfer or PayPal Grace

An initial consultation is necessary to assess individual needs and therapy goals, and this will determine if yoga therapy is the right approach for you.

I work in collaboration with GP’s, psychotherapists, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals to ensure your health and wellbeing needs are optimally addressed.

The 550 hour Yoga Therapy Training course is accredited by the British Council for Yoga Therapy (BCYT), Yoga Alliance (US), and the Association of Physical & Natural Therapists (APNT). I have completed all 550 course hours and currently completing my final case studies. I am due to graduate as a fully accredited Yoga Therapist in Spring of 2021.
